Kyoto at first light

Japan in Cherry Blossom Season · April 2026

We reached the Philosopher's Path before seven in the morning. Hardly anyone about, blossoms on the water, and our tour manager had flasks of tea waiting. Forty years of travelling and this was our quietest, loveliest morning.
